Arthur Miller’s Treatment of Women in The Crucible Essay

Ladies assume a pivotal job in the contention of Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible. They are the whole establishment to the play. Arthur Miller’s treatment of ladies in this play shows ladies as feeble creatures who surrender to their spouses. The manner in which ladies are treated in this play is an impression of the Puritan convictions of that time. Ladies were accepted to have just the activity of generation, and supporting the family with food. The principal model that shows this is the manner in which Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s spouse, is treated as a character. Another model would be the means by which Abigail Williams is a character that is one of a kind and savvy yet on the other hand surrenders to society and is compelled to mislead get herself in the clear. Numerous other ladies are known in this story for uncovering Miller’s treatment of ladies. Albeit a considerable lot of the ladies in The Crucible are regarded all through Salem, Massa chusetts, none of them have any kind of power or control over any person or thing. Despite the fact that they are unadulterated hearted and really great individuals, similar to Elizabeth Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Martha Corey, they have no privilege of power. These ladies intuitively live to deal with their families and family units. This reflects Miller’s treatment of ladies. In The Crucible, Elizabeth Proctor is a generally excellent spouse and mother to her 3 youngsters. She is referred to in the town as one of the most fair individuals ever and is regarded by everybody, except, paying little mind to those things, ladies are seen by society as peasants all through the 50’s. Regardless of how regarded or notable they are, men consistently command and that is depicted in the life of Elizabeth Proctor. John Proctor is a man who accommodates his family; he is there for help and the consideration of a dad. Then again, Elizabeth Proctor is a decent mother and a decent house spouse yet consistently set in her proper place by her better half and this equitable shows how predominant the character is. The strength depicted in the life of Elizabeth Proctor is a case of what Miller is stating through his characters. The way that in this time ladies don’t have the same number of rights as ladies do now, shows that Miller is attracted to writing strictness of that time. In The Crucible, Elizabeth is indicted for black magic and I condemned to jail. Fortunately, she is seen as pregnant and along these lines not condemned to hang like most other ladies that were captured. The way that Elizabeth is given the â€Å"privilege† to live until her infant is conceived is simply one more indication of how Miller depicts the Puritanism into his composition. The Puritans of that time could never hang an honest child since they accept that infants are conceived flippant and have no feeling of good and bad. Subsequently, this demonstrates Arthur Miller rewarded ladies in The Crucible similarly as other writing times of that time by being impacted by Puritanism. Another case of a ladies who experiences Millers trademark classification is Rebecca Nurse. She, alongside Martha Corey, is seen as one the most regarded, unwavering, genuine ladies in the town however she is blamed for black magic. The principle motivation behind why the most blameless ladies of Salem are charged is on the grounds that the individuals that denounced them knew that they were not ready to admit to a wrongdoing they didn’t submit. In this manner, Miller shows Rebecca Nurse and Martha Corey as ladies who not exclusively are regarded by others in the town yet additionally regard themselves that are blamed for black magic and condemned to death. Like referenced previously, ladies of this period had no privilege of intensity and the ladies that do have authority get it from control. A case of that is Abigail Williams. She is the fundamental â€Å"possessor† of intensity in The Crucible. She is one the most significant characters of this play. She has made numerous other ladies of Salem go to jail and later be hung due to â€Å"witchcraft.† Abigail is a character that is viewed as manipulative and subtle around power. She controls individuals into trusting her story and she realizes the proper behavior distinctively around power.

Scoore Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Scoore - Essay Example In addition to the fact that soccer is one of the world's most well known games, yet it is likewise one of the most seasoned, with a profound and rich history going back a huge number of years. It isn't known where soccer started from, however there is proof that an adaptation of the game was played during the Roman and Greek periods and furthermore during the Han tradition in China. In spite of being played in different structures far and wide, the English are credited with shaping the cutting edge adaptation of what we call soccer. In the mid 1800s soccer was played at numerous English colleges and schools under what were known as the Cambridge Rules. It was not until 1863 when the Football Association of England was shaped and concurred on a lot of rules by which to play the game. Through colonization, the British had the option to spread the round of soccer to each side of the earth. In 1904, FIFA was set up to control the game on an overall level, as by that stage the game was f amous all through quite a bit of Europe and South America. Twenty after six years the first FIFA World Cup was held in Uruguay. Since that time there has been a further 18 competitions have been held, with the following one planned for 2014 in Brazil. As of late the round of soccer has additionally gotten onto a female crowd. There are presently numerous female soccer players who play expertly, especially in the United States and England. Since 1991 there has been six FIFA Women's World Cups, with the following one to be held in Canada in 2015. Wayne Rooney is the soccer player that I most respect on account of his expertise on the pitch and style that he plays. He presently plays for Manchester United in England, and he has played for over 10 years with his national group. He is the most generally regarded player on the England group, and the entirety of his rivals remember him as the peril man when they play against his group. Rooney first got popular in 2002 when he was just 16 y ears of age. In a counterpart for his childhood group Everton, he scored a late champ against an elegant Arsenal group. Since that time Rooney has been dealt with like a hotshot by the media and fans. I should state that I am in amazement of his capacity to play soccer since he generally plays with an assurance all over that I can just appreciate. In any case, Rooney is additionally a disputable player too in light of the fact that a few people don't care for his savage character. I should concede that there are times when he baffles fans, for example, when he attempted to design a move away from Manchester United. What I cannot deny is that he will extremely before long become the record objective scorer for both Manchester United and England, and on the off chance that he accomplishes those accomplishments, at that point he will go down as outstanding amongst other British soccer players to have played the game. Despite the fact that I do like Wayne Rooney as a soccer player, my p referred group would need to be Barcelona. The explanation is that they play in a style that is stylishly satisfying to the eye and it nearly appears to be easy when they play. In the course of recent years they have commanded European soccer, winning many alliance titles in Spain and furthermore the Champions League in Europe two or multiple times. This is in enormous part because of the virtuoso that is Lionel Messi. He is broadly perceived as the best soccer player on earth, and it is difficult to contend against this since he has been the FIFA World Player of the Year four years running. Aside from Messi there are numerous other extraordinary players on the Barcelona group, for example, Xavi, Iniesta, and Neymar. What I

A Little INSPIRation

A Little INSPIRation In the midst of a whirlwind-like semester I promise to eventually blog about, I had the chance to connect to Vaishnavi at one of the  Burchard Scholars  dinners and we got to talking about INSPIRE, a cool project that might interest several high school students. The details follow below. *** Q: Tell me a little about yourself. A: I’m Vaishnavi, a junior in Course 9 â€" Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Outside of classes and UROPs (that’s MIT-speak for “undergraduate research”), I work with a team of awesome undergraduates to organize the annual MIT INSPIRE high school research competition in the humanities, arts and social sciences. Q: What is MIT INSPIRE? A: INSPIRE is the first and only national high school competition that focuses entirely on original research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. It’s completely undergraduate-run, but produced with support from faculty, staff and alumni in the MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and other MIT departments. High school participants submit original research in one of 13 broad categories â€" including philosophy, literature, econ, poli sci and othersâ€" for consideration and the top 100 finalists are invited to MIT’s campus in April 2016 to meet expert judges and compete for some serious national recognition and prizes. In our first year (2015), we awarded over $48,000 in prizes. Q: So if a student is interested in INSPIRE, how should they proceed? A: To start, all you really need is a little curiosity and enthusiasm for a topic. This could be anything from a song you heard on the radio to a national issue raised during the Republican or Democratic primaries, a neat culture you heard about in your history class, or even a book you recently read. Come up with a new question that you want to explore or develop a new way to approach a question that’s already been posed before. The sky’s the limit. Find a mentor to bounce off ideas and formulate a method to approach your question. Once you’ve gotten started, submit your Intent to Participate by December 30, 2015 and get ready to submit your final research abstract, report, and other forms in January. INSPIRE judging round. Photo credit: K. Toy Q: What do you like most about MIT? A: One of the things I really love about MIT is our creative and innovative culture. Here, we “think big” about new ideas and possibilities, and are able to actualize them thanks to the many different resources available for undergraduates. Another aspect I like is one of MIT’s hidden gems a stellar humanities, arts and social sciences program. It was recently named among the top 3 universities worldwide in these areas. Q: What advice do you have for applicants to MIT? A: As cliché as it sounds, follow your passions and seek opportunities in areas that interest you. But at the same time, don’t forget to try out new things and demonstrate that you are well rounded. Try looking at things from another perspective: the policy side of that science topic you’re investigating, or the societal effects of a technology you’re immersed in. It will broaden your thinking and give you something unique to talk about in your application and interviews. And who knows, it could lead to an award-winning INSPIRE project, if you’d like to earn some recognition on the side!

Timeline of the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War

U.S. troops had been in Vietnam for three years before the Tet Offensive, and most of the fighting they had encountered were small skirmishes involving guerilla tactics. Although the U.S. had more aircraft, better weapons, and hundreds of thousands of trained soldiers, they were stuck in a stalemate against the Communist forces in North Vietnam and the guerrilla forces in South Vietnam (known as the Viet Cong). The United States was discovering that traditional warfare tactics did not necessarily work well in the jungle against the guerrilla warfare tactics they were facing. January 21, 1968 In early 1968, General Vo Nguyen Giap, the man in charge of North Vietnams army, believed it was time for the North Vietnamese to make a major surprise attack on South Vietnam. After coordinating with the Viet Cong and moving troops and supplies into position, the Communists made a diversionary attack against the American base at Khe Sanh on January 21, 1968. January 30, 1968 On January 30, 1968, the real Tet Offensive began. Early in the morning, North Vietnamese troops and Viet Cong forces attacked both towns and cities in South Vietnam, breaking the ceasefire that had been called for the Vietnamese holiday of Tet (the lunar new year). The Communists attacked around 100 major cities and towns in South Vietnam. The size and ferocity of the attack surprised both the Americans and the South Vietnamese, but they fought back. The Communists, who had hoped for an uprising from the populous in support of their actions, met heavy resistance instead. In some towns and cities, the Communists were repelled quickly, within hours. In others, it took weeks of fighting. In Saigon, the Communists succeeded in occupying the U.S. embassy, once thought impregnable, for eight hours before they were overtaken by U.S. soldiers. It took about two weeks for U.S. troops and South Vietnamese forces to regain control of Saigon; it took them nearly a month to retake the city of Hue. Conclusion In military terms, the United States was the victor of the Tet Offensive for the Communists did not succeed in maintaining control over any part of South Vietnam. The Communist forces also suffered very heavy losses (an estimated 45,000 killed). However, the Tet Offensive showed another side of the war to Americans, one which they did not like. The coordination, strength, and surprise instigated by the Communists led the U.S. to realize that their foe was much stronger than they had expected. Faced with an unhappy American public and depressing news from his military leaders, President Lyndon B. Johnson decided to end the escalation of U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

Copyright law protect Essay Example Pdf - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1135 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Law Essay Type Review Did you like this example? Copyright Law; Software is considered a literary work in the principle act in Ireland covering copyright, the copyright and related rights act, 2000 (1). Software copyright is a form of intellectual property law that exists to protect rights associated with tangible property of people and groups. Copyright therefore cannot exist over ideas alone, (1). Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Copyright law protect Essay Example Pdf" essay for you Create order and protected works must be recorded with an authors consent to have copyright protection. The protected material does not require registration and the rights are only waived explicitly through written notice, but the rights are retained by the person whom the arrangements necessary for the creation of the work are undertaken(1), and includes preparatory design materials . Although the bar is set low over what can be protected, it usually must involve a minimum amount of work and be non-trivial and original (2). So what rights does copyright protect and why does it protect it and why is a law necessary to do this?. Copyright prohibits: Copying protected works for distribution as it infringes the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“reproduction rightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ (1). Lending copies of protected works to unlawful users without remuneration to the copyright holder. Renting protected works to unlawful users where the rented software is the essential object of the loan and not incidental. Installing the software on a network to make it available for multiple users unless it is a special network version is prohibited as it infringes the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“making available rightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ (1). The moral right of paternity, integrity and false attribution(4) Providing material technical assistance to people who infringe on copyright. Punishment for infringement can be pecuniary or custodial and reflects the seriousness of the infringement from personal hacking to commercial piracy. Since coding, requires the investment of considerable human, technical and financial resources while programs can be copied at a fraction of the cost (3) this offers an uncompetitive advantage to those who would copy products for commercial reasons. The theoretical basis for copyright includes to reward labour as described by Locke, to encourage expression of the will as discussed by Hegel, and for utilitarian and economic efficiency as treated by Bentham (1,5,6). Copyright is not an absolute right but is a fundamental right and in Ireland its possession is in keeping with the principles of social justice espoused in article 43 of the constitution of Ireland (8) and within the European parliament directive (3). Indeed the constitution of the USA in 1787 recognised the authors rights for Limited Times(7) showing the universal recog nition to limit the benefit to the individual for the sake of scientific progress. A utilitarian sense of fairness provides for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“the greatest happiness of the greatest numberà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ of people (6) and although an economic analysis will often keep copyrighted works with a few people to benefit greatly sometimes the need for social justice outweighs these reasons. Recently there was a feature of a high profile case in the European courts between the European commission and Microsoft (9), where Microsoft were found to have purposefully kept competing software from inter-operating with their products and this was facilitated by the derivative work restrictions of copyright law. For under a normal economic analysis of law if a party is willing to expend more of their resources in securing the protected rights, all things considered the right should reside with them(5). In the case of Microsoft Vs EU the damage done to the EUs interests by excluding competition an d thereby to maintain full control over its own information was judged to be of greater value than the investment by Microsoft in its development costs and the decision went against them. Presumably in the information age the premium placed on stores of information is very high and proprietary software will not be allowed to block this path. A subsequent European directive clear includes measures to allow interoperability to be achieved even to the point of de-compiling software, provided sufficient measures have not been taken by the original author of the work. By creating protection for works through copyright personal expression of the will is encouraged. This is one of the moral reasons for copyright law and is a feature of Irish copyright laws greater harmonisation with European law such as through the 2009/24/EC European directive. By these moral rights the copyright owner may assert their right to be recognised as the author in so called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“paternityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ . Also to prevent protected items from having work derived from them by maintaining the right to integrity (4) and to prevent false attribution for cloned or non supported distributions even where software is redistributed with the authors consent for instance with GPL code disclaimers . This Lawsuit started with a complaint from Novell, Inc. Which is an Americanmultinationalsoftware and services company headquartered inProvo, Utah, over Microsofts licensing practices that happened in 1993, it stated that Microsoft was blocking its competitors out of the market through anti-competitive practices, this complaint focused on the license practices at the time which required royalties from each computer sold by a supplier of Microsofts operating system, with or without the Windows operating system and this led to Microsoft reaching a settlement in 1994. This ended some of its license practices leading to the EU ordering Microsoft to disclose certain information about its server products and release a version ofMicrosoft WindowswithoutWindows Media Player, the European Commission made more focus on the interoperability issue. In March 2004, the largest fine ever handed out by the EU at the time, was given to Microsoft ordering them to payà ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬497 million ($794 million or £381 million), in addition to the previous penalties, which included 120 days to divulge the server information and 90 days to produce a version of Windows without Windows Media Player. Questions: 1. Identify and explain which of Beckys needs are not being met. 2. How does the interference with these needs effect Beckys wellbeing? Include a description of any coping techniques you have identified. 3. Is time management an issue in this scenario? If so, what changes could be made by Elaine, Becky and the other staff members? Answers: 1.Beckys Need was not fulfilled According to scenario, Becky has completed the graduation and desired to work in health care department. From graduation days she is quiet and always felt out. So, she always craved to feel better in her work place and she wanted to achieve her goals by becoming best assistant in the medical industry. On her first day of joining she wanted to interact with other colleagues and wanted to be very confident in her work. But things didnt work out this way, she was left alone by other staff and Becky was not able to manage the front desk works which lead to disappointment to the client. Becky wanted to be very confident on the first day of work but after getting scolding from Elaine she was shattered. Elaine, mentor of Becky asked her to manage the back office as she was not able to accomplish the needs of front desk. Future asked her to stay away from clients and just manage the back end work. But Becky aspiration was to be there at front desk and manage face to face interaction with cli ents. Apart from that, since graduation days she wanted to interact with someone and be friendly but she was not accomplished in the new office as well. She wanted to be liked by her colleagues and interact with everyone at the workplace. Still everything happened in the opposite direction, she didnt receive the designation she wanted to work on apart from that she didnt found a good companion in the office she was left alone again. Apart from that she as demotivated for her work which added lack of confidence in her. 2.Effects on Beckys well being As Becky need was not at all fulfilled. She joined the office and entered the cooperate world with a different perceptive, but everything went in the opposite direction. She wanted to work as an expertise in medical industry, and wanted to interact with clients and manage the front desk perfectly. Apart from that she wanted to make friends and interact with everyone so that she doesnt feel left out again like in graduation days. But things didnt go will at the workplace she was alone all over again plus everyone at the workplace laughed at her. After that she lost her confidence level which lead to change in her normal well-being. After office everyday she started drinking to overcome from her pain (National Jewish Health, 2018). As Becky was upset by her work, she didnt get the work she was expecting. She was so demotivated by herself and become so negative from her life. She use to cry all day along after office and was going through difficult phase and was helpless as she was all alone. To overcome she adopted a wrong routine after office everyday while returning home. She stopped at some random liquor shop and restores the wine stock every day. And after reaching home, she sits with a bottle of liquor alone trying to forget about all her worries and pains. Following the same routine everyday somewhere affected her health (Penberthy et. al 2014). To cope up from this pain and overcome the stress of her conscious mind, she started consuming alcohol. As consumption of liquor numbs emotional pain of the person and it helps people to disconnect from themselves (Verplaetse et. al, 2018). It is said that alcohol helps in reducing stress of the body. To constantly handle behavioural changes particular coping activities are used to seek and relate solutions to stressful situations that emerge because of stress (Lu Richardson, 2014). Alcohol acts as a stimulant if taken in smaller quantity otherwise excess consumption can be depressant. 3.Issues of Time Management Time management is one of an issue in Beckys case as she was not able to manage the front desk work and many clients were disappointed which could be loss to the organisation. She was not able to manage the time at the workplace, everything got messed up. She was not able to take high number of telephone calls and also she was not able to schedule the appointments. Apart from that lack of time arrangement created the clutter at the desk leaving all the papers messed up at the table. The situation she created on the first day is the sole reason for such a muddle (James Clear, 2018). To resolve this Elaine being the mentor of Becky should has guided her how things work on the first day. So that after getting proper training of the work Becky would have managed the things pretty well. Support from other colleagues on the first day was also important. This could have attained by initially diving the work of Becky, she should have asked to either take calls or attend clients. And Becky should have stick to the schedule so that deadlines of appointment are not missed. Elaine overcomplicated Beckys work on the very first day which reduced her effectiveness of work. Thus time should be managed perfectly to reduce stress and managing multitasking (Mind Tool, 2018). Becky should have focused on time management as it allows accomplishing the task in shorter time period, which offers more time to complete other tasks. Time management allows lowering the stress and more success in the work. It helps to complete the work in an appropriate manner References James Clear, (2018), Time Management Tips That Actually Work, Retrieved on 13 February from https://jamesclear.com/time-management-tips. Equality is promoted in sikhism Essays

Equality is promoted in sikhism Essays Equality is promoted in sikhism Essay Equality is promoted in sikhism Essay The word Sikh means pupil in the Punjabi linguistic communication. Sikhs are pupils and followings of Guru Nanak ( B. 1469 ) , the laminitis of the Sikh tradition. Guru Nanak was succeeded by nine Gurus or holy instructors. Since 1708, the Sikh Guru has been their spiritual Bible, the Guru Granth Sahib. There are over 20 million Sikhs worldwide, doing Sikhism the 5th largest organized faith in the universe. ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.sikhnextdoor.org/students/learn ) This essay will try to measure ways in which equality is promoted, to accomplish this, is critical to overlook at some of the instructions of Sikhism. One of the chief facet of Sikh practical response to equality can be found in the instructions of the Gurus get downing with Nanak, the first Guru, who after he had a powerful mystical experience, in which he received a Godhead naming to convey people to an consciousness of God, said there is no Hindu, there is no Muslim . This brief statement give us a glance of a new get downing procedure towards equality, get downing from understanding unity ( Shackle and Arvind,2005, pg.43. ) . The instructions of the Gurus are non set as philosophical pacts or codifications, but as poesy with a strong devotional prominence, which is designed to be sung or recited. Sikhism does non deduce from any established credo, it does non contend any predating one. Sikh doctrine and faith are enlighten from within the Indian heritage. Far from disassociating it wholly from Hinduism, they have accepted the Hindu pantheon of Supreme beings without any difference. Lakshmi, Durga, Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu are celebrated divinities in the vocals of the gurus. There is no effort to deny their being or deity. The attempt is merely to set them as lesser divinities functioning the supreme Lord. ( KAUR RAIT, 2005, pg.17 ) Sikhism preaches a message of devotedness and recollection of God at all clip, true life, and equality of world. Because of this Sikhism is unfastened to all through the instructions of its 10 Gurus enshrined in the Sikh Holy Book and the life Guru Sri Guru Grand Sahib. The Sikh doctrine and instructions put great accent on the importance of seting others before oneself. where ego exists there is no God. Where God exists there is no ego . ( Guru Nanak ) It promotes a classless society, giving more importance to virtue than wealth. The position of an person should be determined by workss or virtues non by category place. All should be treated as equal irrespective of their material resources. Guru Arjun Dev said, The wisdom of God looks upon all likewise, such as the air current that blows likewise for the common man and the King . ( W.H. McLeod, 1999, pg.32 ) The Sikh construct of equality applies of course to both adult male and adult females and is promoted through the instructions and practises of the Gurus. Sikhism advocates sex equality and agreements adult females an equal topographic point in society. At the emerging of Sikhism the Gurus condemned patterns prevalent in India in the 15th century which undermined adult females, such us the gauze of adult females, sati and female infanticide. Sikhs allowed adult females to remarry, and Guru Nanak condemned the usage to have on the head covering. in India sati and female infanticide were merely lawfully abolished in the 19th century. Sikh Gurus allowed adult females free, unrestrained and equal engagement in the religious every bit good as societal life, in fact they give adult females what should ever been theirs anyhow ; full equality to take part to spiritual services, to be equal spouses in matrimony and household life. If some of the work forces protested that adult females were nescient, the Gurus said allow them show their ignorance. Sikhism is a practical faith and has nowhere ignored facts. It recognises that adult females can talk out of ignorance, but so can adult male. ( Nanak,2006, pg.150. ) The accomplishment of equality is farther demonstrated in the ceremonial usage of the Khalsa a signifier of baptism. New Members, male and female alike are committed to continuing the Rahit ( Sikh codification of moralss and rites ) and assist the community. The importance to Sikhs for equality is besides manifested in the Langar Meal ( Community Kitchen ) is portion of the act of worship and is a really of import facet of Sikh life, it was instituted for a societal issue, as the society was divided into many castes and the difference between Hindus and Muslims. It was made compulsory by Sikh Guru that merely when 1 would sit down at the same degree as the other and eat together that one can fall in the Sangat ( Company of Holy ) .Thus, the cookery, cleansing of dishes and helping of nutrient happens with everybody involved irrespective of their background. All of them sit on the land, as it is consider to be leveled and eat nutrient. These public activity were considered impossible amongst the rule of the category witting Indian society. Where harmonizing to purification system, sharing of nutrient, drink and utensils touched By person from a lower caste was considered as made impure. ( Nesbitt, 2005, pg 32. ) The pattern of Langar repast is still in consequence at Gurudwara ( Sikh topographic point of worship ) . Another given name for langar is Pangat, Sikh households consider it s a privilege to supply the langar and function it to others. ( Mayled, 2002, pg.12 ) On human rights, Gurus rules of equality was a natural thing that came from their religion. God loves us without differentiations of caste, credo, coloring material and sex. Equality implies tolerance of differences, bing in frock, nutrient, usage and so on. For Sikh the province as a critical function to play in the formation of an ideal society. It is ever stressed that whoever roles over the province should ever be a dispensers of justness and equality and must neer exert their authorization despotically. They are responsible to God the Supreme Sovereign, for all their actions. They are merely agent commissioned to regulate in the mode of Plato s ; with justness, kindness, understanding and advance the public assistance of their people. They are to carry on their maps, as a authorization from God. To this last position the Sikh Gurus gave a radical bend by underscoring that whoever regulations is non responsible to God entirely, but to the people as good, for whose good they are set up by God. Therefore if a swayer deviates from the way of justness and responsibility, it is merely to offer opposition to his incorrect making. ( O.P.Ralhan,1997, pg.72 ) The Sikh faith Teachs that life continues after decease in the psyche and non in the physical organic structure. Therefore the last act of giving and assisting others through variety meats contribution is both consistent with and in the spirit of Sikh instructions. ( Benedetti, 2008, pg.57 ) To restart we can decidedly state that from the beginning, Sikhism give adult females equality with work forces non merely in religion`s personal businesss. Both attend services as equal members and behavior services, to work together In fixing and functioning for the communal repast. They portion equal duties in all the societal and cultural activities at the gurdwara. Sikh adult females and work forces take portion on equal footings as president, secretaries, and activities organisers. The Sikh Gurus neer said that adult male and adult females should play precisely the same function in every country of life. They thought that work forces and adult females should esteem and value every bit the different functions that each undertakes. In the Sikh matrimony vows accent is on common fidelity, and this once more brings to our heads in another practical competition the word equality ( Singh,1998, pg.22. ) . In position of all that has been presented so far, to many of us the ideal of equality to which Guru Nanak appealed the people in the 15th century significantly could function as a theoretical account in our ain twenty-four hours an age, and could give a new significance, a new way, a new genuineness to our ain cause of equality chartered merely in recent decennaries in the West. A Guide to Writing Research Papers at Bellevue College Essay

A Guide to Writing Research Papers at Bellevue College - Essay Example A close stance at a fairly large number of assignments that are submitted by students will indicate an element of academic dishonesty. This is attributed to the laziness of the modern student as compared to the 1960’s student who did not rely on Google or Wikipedia as research materials. Perhaps one after reading this statement would perceive it as originating from a polemist and is brushing off shoulders the wrong way. But isn’t this the plain truth? Academic dishonesty is repeatedly exercised in almost every level of education ranging from the elementary level to the graduate school. These assignments contain extreme examples of fabrication, plagiarism, deception among other gross examples of academic dishonesty that portray not the real identity of the student. Because the modern student is subscribed to the school of thought that there is no need to research intensively about a certain topic of study while there are search engines with spiders and crawlers that can t ap into any work, then the results are evident.Different institutions have developed different approaches towards cases of academic dishonesty. Close Reading Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Close Reading - Essay Example This particular day, Bill Hutchinson’s family becomes the unlucky victim. His wife, Tessie, gets the marked slip. In order to adhere to the demands of tradition, every villager picks a stone from the collected sample. Tessie is stoned to death in what narrates the tale of a community eating a member of its own. The Lottery depicts symbolic cannibalism through the death of Tessie Hutchinson. A community ganging up to celebrate the death of its own symbolizes peer pressure. It is a kin to the warnings about smoking. The difference is that Jackson is trying to warn people against primitive loyalty to a group. Jackson questions the absence of logic in group psychology and collective conscience of this particular community that agrees to slaughter its member in a brutal manner. Two things happen on this day: the first thing is peer pressure while the second thing is the forceful exclusion of a member of the community with the purpose of giving the rest of the members a chance to bond. The story narrates how lunch is prepared in time for the ultimate enjoyment once the unfortunate member has been excluded. Another theme that features in the text is the people’s unchallenged loyalty to tradition. This tradition presents a horrendous experience to the unlucky victim and his/her family members. It explains the excitement and nervousness that hang over the community’s head on this particular day. No member of this community has the courage to defy the norm. Nobody has the courage to question the logic behind the ritualistic execution of a member of the community. This element of loyalty is captured in the following line, Precisely, Jackson presents an element of a dead community. The community is trapped in a rotten traditional architecture. Since people are loyal and do not think about the origin and relevance of their tradition, it is unlikely that this community would rescue its members from the horror

Fall of Malacca Empire

Fall of Malacca Empire FALL OF MALACCA EMPIRE The golden age of Malacca ended in 1511. Empire Malacca who called to an end after the Portuguese attack Malacca under the rule of Sultan Mansur Shah. Internal Factors WEAK LEADERSHIP OPPRESSIVE ADMINISTRATION Weak ruling government is the root cause to the fall of the Malacca Sultanate. They were overdependence on Tun Perak until they can’t find a capable leader to replace him. After the death of the Bendahara Tun Perak, Malacca lacked an efficient leader as the replacement of Tun Perak which is Tun Mutahir as a Bendahara was a weak leader because he more concern on his personal welfare and biased during his administration. Many of the ministers expressed their dissatisfaction with this aspect of the way of his management style. As a result, there were often struggles for power. Besides, Sultan Mahmud who paid only a little attention to the administration consider as a weak leader too. He enables the officers to act as they pleased. Bribing and defamation were rife and inevitably result in economic instability and discontent among the people. Corruption in administration to gain personal wealth had caused the imposed of high taxes on citizens and traders forced merchants to shift t heir attention to Acheh, the other trading ports. At the same time, Bendahara Tun Mutahir being accused that he attempted to overthrow the king. He evoked the anger of Sultan Mahmud so without further investigation Sultan Mahmud executed Bendahara Tun Mutahir and his family. Raja Ahmad the inheritor was also weak and inefficient. When Sultan Mahmud realized he was wrong, he handed reign to his son which was unable to help him to rule his empire. Whereas Bendahara Tun Perpatih, the successor which is also weak, ill and old. Son of Sultan Mahmud DISUNITY Malacca’s weak position caused the disunited of people and spilt into factions. Bendahara Tun Mutahir is and Indian-Muslims. His weak administration and practiced favoritism had caused the Malays to become hostile towards them and develop into racial tension. Bendahara Tun Mutahir been appointed had caused the jealousy among Malays and the evident was when Sultan Mahmud commanded Bendahara Tun Mutahir and Tun Ali to be sentence to death at the betrayal by Raja Mandaliar and Laksamana Khoja Hassan, an Indian native. Bendahara Tun Perak’s son, Tepok been appointed as Bendahara but he was too old. All of these factors had causes the disunity among the residents of Malacca. THE WEAKNESS OF MALACCA MILITARY AND DEFENCE Continued misunderstanding caused segregation and disunity among the people. The situation became worse and critical when the Portuguese, led by Alfonso d’Albuquerque attacked Malacca. For Malacca soldiers, they are losing of skills because they not involved in war for a long time. They had been using traditional weapons such as creese, arrow and spear during the war with Portuguese. Whereas, Portuguese used modern weapons such as cannon that clearly different from Malacca in term of range and mobility. Portuguese armed forces have well-equipped weapons and good strategic planning with the guidance of Alfonso d’Albuquerque. Before Portuguese attack Malacca, they had conquered Goa India so they have support of army from Goa India. But for Malacca, the mercenary soldiers from Jawa abandoned state during the war. DISLOYALTY OF FEREIGNERS AND MERCHANTS Due to the political instability, merchants who came and stay at Malacca did not believe to the government of Malacca. They even backed and supported Portuguese during their attack. For Chinese merchant, they provided huge barges on loan to Portuguese. Tamil merchant provided information regarding Malacca defense system. External Factors THE DISCOVERY OF THE CAPE OF GOOD HOPE (TAAJUNG HARAPAN) It is a naval passage in Southern Africa that discovered by Bartholomew Diaz in 1488. The successful of crossing of the Cape of Good Hope allowed the sailor to sail from the west which is Portugal to the East. While Prince Henry eager to locate their trading in the East that lead to the encouragement of his people to sail to East with the slogan of ‘ Gospel, Gold, Glory ‘. The expansion of Portuguese sea exploration was pioneered by Vasco da Gama. He was the first to discover the east coasts of India that help in the establishment of Portuguese. EMERGENCE OF OTHERS TRADE CENTERS Due to the oppressive administration and the high taxes, traders started to looked for other port such as Acheh and Brunei. They had finally switched to the other ports where they can be treated fairly. PREACHING Lopez de Sequeira was assigned by Prince Henry to analyze the trade potentials in Malacca. He arrived at Malacca carrying with him a letter offer from the King. His job was to establish trade with Malacca. Bendahara Tun Mutahir and the officer who were powerful in the court were hostile towards the Christian. The merchants from Gujarat, who got the news the Portuguese planned to preached a holy war against those Muslims infidels. Unfortunately, because of the argument between Bendahara Tun Mutahir and Sultan Mahmud Shah, de Sequeira managed to get known a plot was planned to kill him and his is managed to escape from Malacca with his fleet, leaving behind several of his assistants as captives. Conclusion From the research we had make, we conclude that Malacca Sultanate Empire had gone through three eras which are the beginning and the rise, the middle and the fall of the empire at the same time it contributes a special slots in Malaysian history, because it is said to be the origin of the present sultanate of Malaysia. From the process that Malacca gone through we summarize that effective and systematic administration had lead Malacca to the best outcome. The leader himself must be a role model to make the empire grow and unite the citizen. Citizens’ power can’t be neglected because it influenced the development of any empire in the world including merchandise and traders. We are reminded that in whatever time and place unwise leadership, corruption, disunity and weak defense must be avoided or otherwise turmoil history happens again. My Name Is Margaret Essay

â€Å"My name is Margaret† was written by Maya Angelou. She was born in 1928 in America, and her full name was Marguerite Annie Johnson. Maya Angelou was a talented person. She was a poet, an author, a singer, an actress, and a playwright. Writing â€Å"My name is Margaret† she recovered the truth of the unfair behavior of the white people with the black ones and described the people’s loss of their identity. My name is Margaret summary The story tells about the young black girl who started to work for the white woman. She was only ten years old, and it was a great and remarkable experience for her. She was forced to study many things in the household hadn’t known before. The girl was surprised what a great variety of kitchen tools there can be. She hadn’t even realized that there existed the glasses for water, glasses for wine, glasses for the ice cream and a lot of more that astonished her. The same was with the knives, forks, and other tools and consequently, a great part of her working day was spent on learning all of these things. Margaret was working on an ugly old lady who couldn’t have their children. The girl mentioned that the only thing that could beautify her mistress was a smile. However, this smile only appeared on Mrs. Cullinan’s face when she was sharing a cup of tea with her friend ladies. There was one more servant, Miss Glory, who had been working in that house for twenty years and patiently taught Margaret everything that she should know about household and the manners of their mistress. The bad things began when Mrs. Cullinan called the girl â€Å"Mary† for the first time, explaining that is a shorter name and more convenient to pronounce. Margaret was extremely dissatisfied with this action and was struggling to do her best to get rid of this job.    My name is Margaret analysis Maya Angelou tried to picture the importance of our names. Each name is a unique and expresses the peculiarities of its owner. Surrounding people identify us with the help of our names. In our minds, each name is associated with the list of different stories, occasions, situations related to the person who owns this name. Our name creates a specific picture, and if we change it, we stop being ourselves. That is why Margaret was extremely shocked and crossed when she heard the first time the name â€Å"Mary† that was appealing to her. She didn’t react and tried to explain with all her behavior that her name isn’t Mary. She didn’t want to be somebody else; she wanted to be herself that meant to be Margaret, not Mary. Being called with another name signified for her that nobody took in the consideration her existence. None forced to notice her and communicate with her as with specific and unique individual. For her mistress, Margaret was just a servant, and she didn’t bother how to name her. Mrs. Cullinan never minded thinking about girl’s personality as far as the servant complete her work and do everything that is demanded of her. Margaret wanted to be herself, but nobody cared who she was and who she wanted to be. The girl found out that the elder servant, Miss Glory, had met the same situation in her life. Her real name was Hallelujah. Though, Mrs. Cullinan once decided that it is too long to remember and pronounce every time such a complete name and shortened it to the Glory. Margaret didn’t expect to hear that. She couldn’t understand why the senior woman didn’t even mind it and even loved her new name better. It was inadmissible to live the whole life with the name that doesn’t belong to you. Miss Glory may not bother, but Margaret took the strong decision not to tolerate it. If they didn’t want to receive her as Margaret, she wouldn’t act as Margaret. She didn’t care about rules and successions and did everything wrong on purpose. She aimed to attract the attention of being a bad servant and to be discharged. After all, there was a day when Mrs. Cullinan finally called the girl â€Å"Margaret.† Unfortunately, it was after having experienced the pain of the crushing of her favorite china serving tray. The serving tray was of extreme importance in Mrs. Cullinan’s house as it was her mother’s china from Virginia. The mistress was broken and bursting with the tears. In the condition of complete desperateness, she shouted: â€Å"Her name is Margaret.† Margaret was glad that she finally forced her mistress to understand the simple truth – her name was not Mary. Her name was Margaret. Maya Angelou wanted everyone to understand how it is extremely important not to lose the identity in our everyday life. Many people would consider us as somebody who lives someone else’s life. However, we shouldn’t agree for any reason. We were born to be unique, and that means, we could not die as a copy of another person.

Jeep and Social Media Essay

In recent years, social media has become an incredibly important tool with which people communicate. Young and old people alike use Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and blogs to relay messages and connect with one another. However, these platforms are no longer used by individuals solely. More and more companies have begun to use social media to reach out to current and future customers and to advertise themselves. It is not uncommon for company Facebook pages and Twitter feeds to have a large number of subscribers or followers nowadays. One company that uses social media quite effectively is Jeep. The company uses outlets like Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube to reach out to their customers and try to capture new ones. Jeep uses social media to target a different type of audience than most companies. Whereas many firms would be trying to capture new customers, Jeep is more devoted to engaging existing customers and connecting Jeep owners. In doing this, Jeep’s target audience consists mainly men and women who are of driving age. There are a few other qualifications though. One of the attractions of a Jeep is the ruggedness and outdoorsy image that it embodies. Therefore, the target audience that Jeep tries to reach through it’s social media usage would most likely include those that are interested in a number of outdoor activities. In addition, though the Jeeps are sold to customers of any age, it seems that most users of social media are in the younger generations. While this is currently beginning to change, it is reasonable to believe that Jeep’s social media is targeted more towards younger Jeep owners – most likely those customers whose age lies in the range of the early teens to the late thirties. As already mentioned, Jeep’s focus is not really to attract new customers but to provide existing owners with a number of different ways to connect with eachother and with the company itself. Establishing these connections is where the interactivity of Jeep’s social media platforms comes into play. The main parts of Jeep’s social media are the Jeep Facebook page, the Jeep MySpace page, the Jeep Twitter feed, the official Flickr group, the Jeep YouTube account, and an online community titled â€Å"Come Together†. All of these places are used as exchanges where Jeep owners and enthusiasts can interact with one another. These interactions consist of uploading and viewing photos and videos to the Flickr and YouTube accounts, commenting on interesting segments on the â€Å"Come Together† community site, or talking to each other on the Facebook and MySpace pages. While there are not many contests or downloads that Jeep tries to push on visitors to their sites, visitors are strongly encouraged to post photos and comments relating to their personal experiences with the company. I have personally worked in a company that makes and sells aftermarket Jeep accessories and have seen firsthand how proud and involved Jeep owners can be over their Jeeps. Therefore, it is not surprising that these sites and social media platforms are often very successful in getting viewers to post photos, videos, and comments about their Jeeps and any others they see on the sites. There is no real advertising for products taking place on these social media sites. Instead, the sites act merely as an exchange of ideas and opinions between customers and the company. However, this is an example of a very good product marketing strategy. When site visitors view pictures of other Jeep owners’ vehicles, they may often see products on the other vehicles that they like and become interested in purchasing. This will often lead to sales of Jeep accessories without any real advertising expenses incurred by the company. Reviews, photos, and videos from actual customers serve to enhance the products in other people’s minds and indirectly lead to visitors purchasing goods. Traditional advertising is also integrated in all of these social media sites. All of Jeep’s current regular television commercials are posted on both the YouTube and MySpace pages. Print ads can also be found on the MySpace page. However, while traditional advertising can be found in many places on Jeep’s social media sites, it is not the focus. Jeep uses these sites more to promote connectivity between the customers. It seems as though they want visitors to forget that all these sites are part of a corporate marketing strategy; instead they want to promote the idea that the sites are merely a way for owners to exchange photos and stories about their experiences with the Jeeps they have bought. The company is not trying to push new products down the customers’ throats but rather is interested in hearing about the likes and dislikes that the customers have. I believe that this dedication to engaging the customer is part of what makes Jeep owners so devoted to the company. Therefore, Jeep’s social media platform is very effective at doing what the company sets out to do.
